We, the humble, have you as an intercessor and supplicant for our souls, you who have boldness before the Lord. And now, on the day of your Feast, we pray you, ask of God for us forgiveness of sins and deliverance from dangers, that we may sing to you: Rejoice, Great Martyr Tryphon!

Oikos 1

Holy, glorious Great Martyr Tryphon, with reverence and unwavering faith we dare to ask and await your intercessions before the Divine Mercy, that we may be found partakers of your joy, we who suffer in many ways from illnesses, passions, needs and terrible assaults. On every soul that is afflicted and troubled, on those who keep with knowledge the law of Christ God and believe in Him, on all who strive to venerate your holy relics and who adorn for you this song of praise, supplication and glory, help them with the grace you have been granted from Christ, our Saviour and God. Hear us, who say to you such things as these:

• Rejoice, Tryphon, born in the land of Phrygia, in the village of Campsada;
• Rejoice, angelic repose, from childhood, of the grace of the Holy Trinity;
• Rejoice, chosen vessel of the Water of Life and of the grace of wonderworking;
• Rejoice, through whom the name of God is glorified in heaven and on earth;
• Rejoice, expeller of the demon from the emperor’s daughter, Gordiana;
• Rejoice, revealer to others of the enemy through your fasting and prayer to God;
• Rejoice, Tryphon, name terrifying to demons;
• Rejoice, icon that pours forth into the world the myrrh of God’s glory;
• Rejoice, wonderful multiplication of the holy faith in many parts of Phrygia;
• Rejoice, for you were seized for the confession of Jesus Christ God;
• Rejoice, self-offering made a willing sacrifice into the hands of the pagans;
• Rejoice, unshaken stance at the judgment before the governor Aquilinus;

Thrice-blessed Martyr Tryphon, you did not wish to submit to the emperor’s command to worship the gods. But rather you confessed Jesus Christ to be truly God. Therefore you are worthy to hear from us the singing of the Akathist, through which we call you blessed and together with you sing: Alleluia!

Let not the lawless be found worthy to subdue us under their feet, O Holy Martyr of Christ, Tryphon, when they rush upon us like the waves of the sea that come with swiftness, but let them fall like the ears of the field before your face, while we bless you, crying:

• Rejoice, unbending before deceitful allurements;
• Rejoice, thirst after the sufferings for Jesus Christ;
• Rejoice, unplundered treasury of the priceless riches of the right faith;
• Rejoice, divine endurance of torments from the pagans;
• Rejoice, chosen vessel of the grace of beautiful speech flowing from God;
• Rejoice, for you said to the governor: “No one denying the Heavenly King Jesus Christ will be able to inherit eternal life”;
• Rejoice, you were made to run through the winter frost with bare feet;

• Rejoice, for you said: “Order my steps, O Lord, according to Your word”;

Your soul being enlightened by the understanding of the Godhead, you showed yourself a true warrior of the Saviour Christ, standing unshaken in His love. Therefore we come to you with humility and with twofold compunction sing to God: Alleluia!

Being full of the grace of God, Martyr Tryphon, which enlightened and made you wise, through good deeds as by a ladder you went from strength to strength, O victorious bearer of the Heavenly King Jesus; therefore we sing to you:

• Rejoice, for the governor Aquilinus marvelled at your righteous answers;
• Rejoice, endurance of beatings that put demons to shame;
• Rejoice, unshaken pillar before the fury of the tyrant;
• Rejoice, strength unconquered by the torments and terrors of Aquilinus, who condemned you to death;
• Rejoice, for he commanded your head to be cut off for faith in our God Jesus Christ;
• Rejoice, prayer with thanksgiving to God before your passing;
• Rejoice, for through your prayer the people of Campsada were delivered from famine, from wild beasts and harmful insects;
• Rejoice, for as you prayed, before your head was cut off, the Lord received your holy soul into His hands;
• Rejoice, for you commanded that your precious and holy body be taken to Campsada;
• Rejoice, Tryphon, for from your youth you were consecrated to God;
• Rejoice, offering to God of many people;
• Rejoice, healing of countless illnesses among the peoples;

No longer bearing your holy wonders, by which the deception of idols was despised – for you preached to them the faith of Christ and clearly showed that He is God who works wonders, and not the idols – they subjected you to torments, which you received with love, singing: Alleluia!

Lifting up a voice to you, we say: hasten, Holy Martyr Tryphon, to defend us, for after the Saviour and His Most Pure Mother, we run to you, that you may deliver us from all dangers and we bless you, singing:

• Rejoice, long-suffering in torments crowned by the Most Holy Trinity;
• Rejoice, for the Lord Christ with the angels brought you up to heaven;
• Rejoice, for the Martyrs came forth to meet you;
• Rejoice, met with honour by the Venerable;

Send us food of salvation, Holy Tryphon, from God, that we may not perish from the multitude of passions; for we are sinners, but having you as intercessor, we gain hope of salvation, for from you we learn to sing worthily: Alleluia!

Your name, Tryphon, was shown to be most praised in all the land of Phrygia, for through your prayers to God you brought many of the idol-worshippers to the Faith of Christ, and being baptised in the name of the Most Holy Trinity, they cried with one voice: “Great is the God of the Christians!” Therefore we also, delivered through you from many kinds of sins and oppressions, sing to you:

• Rejoice, arm with power that brings adversaries to faith in Christ;
• Rejoice, deliverer of the enslaved;
• Rejoice, wonderful one among the Saints, who made pagans be baptised;
• Rejoice, courageous soul, deemed worthy to be a Martyr;
• Rejoice, acquisition of the grace of Holiness through the Cross of great sufferings;

A broken and humbled heart God will not despise, says the holy Prophet David; therefore humbling ourselves unto death, we fall before you, Great Martyr Tryphon, that you pray to God for us sinners; that He may calm our pains and still the assault of hateful passions, and we in peace of heart may sing: Alleluia!

The soldiers beating your body terribly and without mercy, O long-suffering one of Christ, the earth was reddened by your blood; therefore we sing to you:

The foolish tyrant, wishing to destroy you at once and seeing that the torments were in vain for you, often thought how to put you to death. But you, O Saint, being inflamed with desire to go to Christ, unceasingly sang to God: Alleluia!

You accomplished a new and terrible endurance, O Saint, when you were tormented by the tyrants, by the command of Aquilinus; for receiving with joy the nails driven into your feet, beaten cruelly and tied to a horse, you ran towards Christ; therefore we cease not to praise you, singing:

• Rejoice, Tryphon, martyrdom seeing the crown prepared in Heaven;
• Rejoice, conquest of the enemy camps by the power of Divine Grace;
• Rejoice, soul placed in the dwellings of the Saints;

Overwhelmed by the waves of temptations that come upon us, we cannot fight nor are we worthy of mercy, because we have no repentance on account of our sins. Therefore we fall before you, beseeching you to strengthen us in the love of God, that we may escape the snares of the enemies and sing:

• Rejoice, for we bow our heads to the ground before your precious relics;
• Rejoice, mercy fulfilling our requests for salvation;

May the passions you divinely endured be for us for the healing of our passions, and the wounds of your body be a covering for the pains that trouble our mind; grant us, therefore, O Saint, endurance in trials, that we may sing with purified and reconciled hearts: Alleluia!

With your blood shed for the love of Christ, wash away the defilement of our sins, O most blessed Tryphon, and with the multitude of wonders change the minds of the brothers who persecute us, that they may return and not be condemned together with the evil enemy; and through you finding the peace of Christ, may we sing to you:

• Rejoice, shame of the enemy with all his hosts;
• Rejoice, crushing under your feet the armies of darkness;
• Rejoice, consolation of monastics and unwavering gaze shining from the icon of love;
• Rejoice, name written in the Book of Life, sung and honoured by Christians;

Fervent are your prayers to God, Holy Martyr Tryphon, for interceding for forgiveness and healing of the weak, you delivered us from the pit of condemnation into which we had fallen. Therefore we sinners, knowing your good deeds, marvel at the Grace that works through you, and sing: Alleluia!

To the Creator, and by no means to creation, you showed yourself a confessor in all things and a victorious martyr of His, therefore the tyrant also asked you who strengthens you in the torments. But you, as a warrior of Christ, answered him: “My God is in my soul.” Therefore with joy we sing to you:

• Rejoice, raising up of those fallen into grievous sins;

A wholly luminous lampstand have your precious relics shown themselves, O Holy Great Martyr Tryphon, placed in the midst of the Church and shining to all who venerate them with faith; therefore deprive us not of such a gift, O Saint, having mercy on us who with love sing to you:

With songs we honour your memory, we call blessed your torments and long-suffering, we magnify and praise your wonders, your valour and courage, and running to your intercessions, we bless you as a great helper and guardian of the world. O most praised Martyr Tryphon, hear our humble prayer which we bring before you from all our heart and deliver us from illnesses and dangers, us who honour your memory and confess the wonders accomplished by you through the Grace of the Holy Spirit. Direct our steps towards the light of the Resurrection of Christ and take care from on high that we be not overwhelmed by the waves of the world, but with gaze fixed on Christ, may we reach the shore of eternity and the revealed love of the Holy Trinity, singing from liturgising hearts: Alleluia! PRAYER

O all-praised Holy Martyr Tryphon, receive from us these songs which with compunction we bring before you and deliver us from all needs and afflictions, as a good and loving and unashamed protector of Christians. For although we are unworthy to become partakers of your mercy, because of our many and grievous sins committed in our life and every hour, yet knowing the great goodness you have shown towards those who honour you and repent with faith in the name of the Lord, we strive with tears of compunction and most humble confession of sins to your intercessions before the Holy Trinity. Be therefore for us an unceasing supplicant to the All-Powerful God, for forgiveness of our sins, for our deliverance from all illnesses and dangers, from earthquake and sudden death, for our strengthening in the true faith, defending us from all evils according to your promise, for we all honour you and celebrate your name, now and ever and unto ages. Amen.

After the dismissal we say thus:

Holy Great Martyr Tryphon, receive the prayers of your unworthy servants and deliver us from every need and affliction. All our hope we place in you, Mother of God, keep us under your holy Protection. Amen.
